Hat-trick! Wayne Rooney takes off his cap to reveal results of hair transplant as he soaks up the sunshine in Barbados

Wednesday, June 8, 2011
By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

New hair: Wayne Rooney removed his cap after a day in the sunshine in Barbados to reveal the effects of his hair transplant and displayed a nasty-looking scar on the right hand side of his head

He tweeted a picture of his new hair before jetting off to the Caribbean to enjoy a family holiday.

But after keeping the results of his transplant under his hat for most of the day Wayne Rooney removed his cap to show off his thickened hairline at the end of the day yesterday.

The Manchester United footballer had been enjoying a day at the luxurious Sandy Lane resort in Barbados when he unearthed his new barnet.

Thin on top? As Rooney bowed his head to take off his cap his new hairline could be seen although he was still sporting sparse hair on his head following the cosmetic procedure

But with his pale skin perhaps Rooney should have been keeping the tender area on his head completely covered as after a day in the sunshine the footballer was displaying a T-shirt line tan, with bright pink arms and a red neck.

Coleen managed to fare better than her husband and showed off an impressive tan despite only being in the sunshine for one day.

With Wayne free in between football seasons, the Rooneys have headed to their £5million holiday home on the island.

T-shirt tan: Wayne was showing off some sunburn on his arms and on his neck

Family day: Earlier in the day Wayne had been keeping things under his hat and covered his pale complexion with a T-shirt

And as expected, the WAG, was showing off the latest acquisition of her designer bikini collection.

The Littlewoods designer, 25, displayed her curves figure in a purple halterneck zig zag bikini.

Earlier in the day her husband Wayne made sure he covered up his pale complexion in a T-shirt and shorts - as well as his recent hair transplant under a red baseball cap.

Family time: Coleen and Wayne play in the surf with their 18-month-old son Kai

Larking around: Coleen shares a laugh with her son as they play in the Caribbean sea

Strolling along the beach at the Sandy Lane Resort, the Manchester United striker, looked every inch the doting dad as he played with Kai on the beach.

The family arrived in Barbados last night after jetting over from Manchester airport.
Coleen was understandably apprehensive about boarding the nine-hour flight with their 18-month-old son Kai.

That's my boy: Just like his dad, little Kai keeps protected from the sun in a hat

Doting dad: The Manchester United player keeps a close eye on his son

She Tweeted on Monday: 'On our way to the airport!! Can't wait to get there but gonna be a fun flight with a active little boy.'

After a follower recommended a portable DVD player, Coleen admitted she already had one and he was watching it.

Once she arrived, she updated her followers: 'Here in sunny Barbados safe and sound!!! Just in the kids pool making friends haha x.'

Come to mummy: Coleen entertains her son in the warm Caribbean sea

Coleen visits Barbados several times a year, while Wayne only gets to fly to the Caribbean in between football seasons.

It's the first time they've returned to the island as a couple since Wayne was embroiled in scandal last September when he was reported to have slept with two prostitutes while Coleen was pregnant with Kai.

While the WAG has enjoyed a few vacations since the furore, they've only holidayed together once since, last October.

Wayne and Coleen left Kai in the care of her parents to enjoy a week long break at the seven star Burj Al Arab hotel in Dubai.

Time out: The holiday is some rare family time for the trio

The couple jetted off to the £2,000-a-night hotel after Wayne secured a huge payrise after threatening to leave Manchester United.

The Rooneys have been fond of Barbados for years and built a £5million house on the island's 500-acre Royal Westmoreland development last year.

The six bedroom villa comes with an infinity pool and breathtaking sea views from the bedroom, and the living room areas.

Other familiar celebrity faces with holiday homes on Barbados includes ex-boxing champion Joe Calzaghe, Wayne's team-mate Rio Ferdinand, Gary Lineker, cricketer Freddie Flintoff, and TV hosts Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly.

Now that's got to hurt: Drunk goes tumbling head over heels down two flights of stairs... and still walks away

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Steady approach: It starts off well for dinner-suited man as he grabs the hand-rail, left, but he is soon in trouble, right, as he falls flat

Most people like to let their hair down once in a while during a big night out on the town.

But this dinner-suited reveller took things to extremes when he rolled down two flights of stairs after being thrown out of an awards ceremony.

CCTV footage of his antics has now been posted online, showing the unfortunate middle-aged man's attempt to make his way home in all its glory.

Keep on rolling: The drinker tries to use his leg as leverage in his quest to stand up, left, before regaining some composure, right, half-way down the stairs

Starting behind the Savoy Hotel in central London where he had earlier been ejected from a theatre awards ceremony hosted by Stephen Fry, the man at first grips a hand-rail as he attempts the first few steps.

But his pace quickens and he falls on his face for the first - but not the last time.

Regaining his feet on the middle section of the steps, the middle-aged drinker is quickly in trouble again, rolling head-first over the hand rail.

Pole-axed: This time the man falls in style, falling over the central rail before landing on his head, right

Ouch: It's going to be a case of a very sore head in the morning for this chap as he lands flat, and right, he heads for home, his work on the stairs done

Worryingly, the man falls directly on his head before rolling to the bottom of the steps.

However, the ill-effects of concrete to the face appear only temporary as the mystery man dusts himself down, wipes blood from his head and weaves his way home.

Surf's up! The photographer making a splash with his perfect shots of the perfect wave... even if it does mean swimming with sharks

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

The perfect wave: Lee captures one surfer braving the sea on his board

Here's a photographer who is making a real splash as he captures surfers trying to catch the perfect wave.

Surfing photographer Lee Kelly goes the extra mile to snap the swell shots of man and board.

Risking life and limb on jagged corals and swimming among great white sharks Lee has perfected a technique which gives an up close and personal view of people trying to tame the waves.

Lee uses two cameras set at the same shutter speed which take the picture simultaneously and brings them together to create a panoramic effect.

Catch a wave: The stunning panoramic shots capture surfers like never before

Making a splash: One surfer is caught managing to stay upright despite the powerful wave

His day at the office takes him to exotic locations including Hawaii, Tahiti, Bondi Beach... and Devon.

But spending up to seven hours in the water and swimming the equivalent of 1,500 metres at a time Lee proves he is no beach bum.

The 33-year-old, from Sydney, Australia, says his girlfriend understands that his passion means he has to jet off to tropical locations on a regular basis.

He said: 'I'm very lucky, my girlfriend Holly understands that when I have to go away to these places I'm not just lying on the beach all day.'

Up close and personal: Lee travels the world in search of the perfect wave so he can take the perfect shot

The photographer has had to sacrifice safety for his art, including being thrown against coral by a stormy sea and unwittingly swimming alongside huge sharks.

'I have had a few close shaves. In Tahiti there is a particularly big wave which the surfers go for which breaks on the coral in the shallows,' he said.

'I was waiting for the wave one time and I think I had got a bit cocky, suddenly it came in and the whole horizon seemed to be filled with it.

'It broke on top of me and actually threw me into the air before sending me against the coral, I was underwater for a long time and it was hit and miss whether I would make it.

'It was my mom's dying wish': Man, 23, loses almost half 459lbs body weight in just a YEAR

Tuesday, June 7, 2011
By FIONA ROBERTS

Half the size: Alex Respess reveals his astonishing weight loss next to a cardboard cut-out showing him at his heaviest, when he weighed 459lbs

When Alex Respess's mother died after a battle with cancer, she made one last request - for her son to be happy and healthy.

And now, four years later, the 23-year-old can proudly say he fulfilled his mother's dying wish after he lost almost half his body weight in just 12 months.

He showed off his astonishing transformation on ABC's Good Morning America today, where he revealed his new 243lbs figure next to a cardboard cut-out showing him at his heaviest, 459lbs.

Before and after: Alex Respess, left, at his first weigh-in a year ago, and right, today on Good Morning America after he lost an astonishing 216lbs

The audience gasped as he held up one of his old shirts, and showed how he could now fit his whole body into one leg of a pair of shorts he wore before he shed the pounds.

Mr Respess, of Duluth, Georgia, said: 'The one thing I think [my mom] would say is she's proud of the man I've become.

'Because I'm not that kid that was overweight that she remembers - now I'm grown up.'
He added: 'Now in her memory I am happy and healthy and helping my brothers get that way too.'

Inspiration: Alex Respess pictured with his mother, Kim, who died four years ago. She told him she wanted him to be happy and healthy

Last year he was literally double the size. After a lifetime of unhealthy eating, Mr Respess, an ardent baseball fan, was too big to play, and was too mortified to go out to eat after once breaking a chair at a restaurant.

He said:' I was very introverted, I just didn't get out there, now I have the confidence to talk to anyone, to do anything.'

So, in desperation, Mr Respess wrote to personal trainer Chris Powell, who agreed to help him on ABC's Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition.

At the beginning Mr Respess was so big he had to be weighed on a freight-scale, and could only enter his bathroom door sideways.

Morbidly obese: At the beginning of the programme, Alex Respess was 459lbs, and had to be weighed using a pair of freight scales

First he travelled to Los Angeles, where he began his training - and learned how to make a healthier turkey version of his favourite bacon cheeseburger.

For the next 90 days Mr Powell lived with Mr Respess at his Duluth home, staying with him for 24 hours a day to help him meet his initial target, of losing 100lbs in just three months.

At his first weigh-in, he missed his goal - and the prize of a season ticket to his favourite baseball team, the Atlanta Braves - by just three pounds.

Astonishing transformation: Alex Respess demonstrates how he can fit inside one leg of his old shorts, left, and disappears behind an old shirt, right

Strict regime: Alex Respess meets Chris Powell, who spent the last year training him. Mr Powell even moved into his Georgia house for three months

But after Mr Powell moved out Mr Respess began to struggle, and worked out less and less. He said it gave him too much time to think about his mother's death, and he was angry about his father's impending marriage to his new fiancée.

The turning point came three days after the wedding, when Mr Powell took Mr Respess to an Army base in Georgia for a 24-hour boot camp.

He said the encouragement from the other soldiers as he trained alongside them spurred him on, and he went away with a coin to symbolise his goal: 'Get to it and fulfill your mission!'

Desperate measures: Alex Respess even let the Army shave his hair off so he could attend a 24-hour boot camp. He described it as a turning point

By January, he had lost a whopping 195lbs, and was able to undergo skin removal surgery to complete the transformation.

The end of the programme shows Mr Respess attending a ceremony with all his family and friends at a baseball field where he used to play little league - the last time he thought he made his mother proud.

He officially renamed a corner of the field Kim's Corner in her honour, and as he celebrated his 216lbs weight loss said: 'That number means a new life.'

Is Ryan Giggs the new Tiger Woods? Love-rat footballer faces exodus of sponsors like shamed golfer

Monday, June 6, 2011
By JAMES TOZER

United in public: Stacey Giggs has so far stayed with the shamed footballer and the couple are currently out of the country as further revelations come to light

Reebok declines to comment if they are standing by him following claims

Rhodri Giggs could demand paternity test over possibility footballer is son's father

Brothers' aunt describes Ryan as: ‘a dirty dog’ with ‘no morals’

Ryan and Stacey cancel plush Spanish hotel break, opting to stay in private villa

Ryan Giggs could become the ‘new Tiger Woods’ as sponsors abandon him over his

alleged philandering, marketing experts believe.

They predicted that the firms which have helped amass a £34million fortune would react unfavourably to the wrecking of his family-man image.

And they warned that, unlike the golfer who still has a long career ahead of him, 37-year-old Giggs is unlikely to have enough time to rebuild his reputation before he ends his playing days.

More to come: Natasha Giggs is understood to have signed a six-figure tabloid deal following the revelation that she had an eight-year affair with Ryan Giggs, the brother of her husband Rhodri, pictured right

Giggs’s biggest deal, which has earned him £20million, is with the sportswear giant Reebok, but it declined to respond yesterday when asked by the Mail whether it would be standing by him.

The Manchester United star’s downfall came after he was revealed to have taken out an injunction forbidding reporting of an alleged relationship with former Big Brother contestant Imogen Thomas.

Big deal: Giggs' sponsorship with sportswear company Reebok has helped to earn him £20m

Then, at the weekend, his brother Rhodri’s wife Natasha revealed that she and Giggs had an eight-year affair.

She is said to have regularly slept with the £80,000-a-week star until April this year, during which time she and Rhodri had a son who will be five this summer.

Struggle: Marketing experts have said that Giggs will find it extremely difficult to recover his image in the time he has left in his playing career

The alleged affair raises the prospect that Rhodri could now demand a paternity test to examine the possibility that his brother is actually the father of the child.

‘He looks just like Rhodri – but then the two brothers also look very similar,’ a friend was quoted as saying.

The boy was born in August 2006, two months before Ryan and Stacey Giggs’s own son was born.

DNA testing experts confirmed that there would be sufficient markers in samples from brothers who were not genetically identical twins to establish paternity.

Rhodri fled abroad yesterday after apparently telling friends that his marriage is over.

Meanwhile, Ryan was due to stay, with wife Stacey, at their favourite hotel in Spain.

But the couple cancelled their room at the plush Marbella Club and are now believed to have switched to a more private villa.

A source at the exclusive resort told The Sun: 'Their booking was suddenly cancelled. It's a shock to hear of the trouble in their marriage.'

Serial adulterer: Tiger Woods lost several sponsorship deals when his affairs came to light

It was reported at the weekend that 28-year-old Natasha decided to speak out from a sense of betrayal after Giggs took out his ill-fated injunction to keep his alleged affair with Miss Thomas secret.

Marketing experts said firms would now be loth to associate themselves with him.

Along with Reebok, Giggs signed deals to publicise the Swiss watch firms Patek
Philippe and Cyma, car manufacturer Citroen and phone company Saudi Telecom.

Fleeing abroad: A tired looking Rhodri was driven from his £170,000 terrace home yesterday by his best friend, the actor Will Mellor

‘A little like Tiger Woods, he had this untouchable air about him, almost Mr Perfect – he was seen as a model professional and a really good guy.

‘Once that image goes, he’s likely to find his whole unique selling point has gone, too.’

'Superhands' chef takes cooking to the extreme by dipping his bare hands into BOILING fat

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Record breaker: Kann Trichan can pluck 20 pieces of chicken from 480C fat in a minute

Dipping his hands into hot boiling fat this chef takes his cooking to the extreme.

Kann 'Superhands' Trichan can bury his hands deep into hot boiling fat and sieve fried chicken with his own fingers.

Amazingly the 50-year-old - a world record holder - walks away with no blisters at all.

'When I put my hands into the oil it feels hot but it doesn't burn or blister my skin,' said Kann, from Chiang Mai, in Thailand. 'I can fry rice, chicken, and many things with just my bare hands.'

Mr Trichan likes showing off to people and is something of a local attraction at the market where he works

Kann discovered his unique talent seven years ago when he was accidentally splashed with hot oil but suffered no injury.

The father of two, was working on his fried chicken stall when he spotted a squirrel balancing on a tree eating a mango.

The mango fell and splashed into a huge wok of hot fat right next to him.
'The fat flew everywhere, all over my head, arms, hands. It should've seriously hurt me,' he said.

'I remember looking in the mirror, expecting to see blisters and red blotches, but there was nothing,' he added. 'The redness had disappeared. There was nothing.'
The the astonishment of his fellow market stall holders, he went back to work the next day.

'They couldn't believe I was back at work so soon,' he laughed. 'And then everyone wanted to see this man who had survived a hot oil shower.'

Mr Trichan started experimenting with his new found talent and started picking out pieces of fried chicken from a pan of hot fat with his hands.

'The people were loving it. They'd never seen anything like it before.

'The people were loving it. They'd never seen anything like it before.

'People were coming from all over just to buy my chicken and watch me spoon it out with hands.'

Over the last seven years Kann has become an international star and has traveled the world with his wife, Tuan, 45, showcasing his skills.

His daughter, Supalak, 34 and son Jessada, 27, couldn't be prouder.

'We never get bored of watching him, it's amazing,' said Jessada. 'We're very proud to have a dad like him.'

Kann holds the Guinness Book of World Record for picking 20 pieces of fried chicken out of 480c boiling fat in 1 minute.

Unscathed: There are no marks on his hands despite putting his hand in the bubbling hot oil

'I have no idea how I can do what I do,' he said. 'It's crazy, but my stall gets busier and busier every day with tourists and customers wanting to see me.'

His popular little stall sits outside Chiang Mai technical college, 470 miles north of Bangkok.

'Don't forget, when you're in the area come and see me and try my chicken - The Fried Chicken Iron Hands Man.'

When all hell breaks loose: Lightning tears the sky apart above the glow of the Chilean volcano

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Spectacular: A time-lapse photo shows lightning bolts striking around the Puyehue-Cordon Caulle volcanic chain in Patagonia

Flames reach up to the heavens as lightening flashes criss-cross the sky.

These extraordinary images show the full force of Mother Nature as a Chilean volcano erupts for the first time in 50 years.

Ash has been thrown six miles up into the sky and the South American government has ordered the evacuation of thousands of residents.

Winds fanned the ash toward neighbouring Argentina, darkening the sky in the ski resort city of San Carlos de Bariloche, in the centre of the country, and its airport has also been closed.

Nature's force: Lightning and volcanic fire is seen amid and underneath a towering cloud of ash. Puyehue volcano erupted for the first time in half a century on June 4

Incredible lighting bolts strike around the plume of volcanic ash and smoke

The dramatic scenes above the volcano makes an incredible cloud formation as smoke rises several miles into the air

The eruption in the Puyehue-Cordon Caulle volcanic chain, about 575 miles south of the capital, Santiago, also prompted authorities to close a busy border crossing into Argentina.

It was not immediately clear which of the chain's four volcanoes had erupted because of ash cover and weather conditions. The chain last saw a major eruption in 1960.
Local media said the smell of sulphur hung in the air and there was constant seismic activity.

'The Cordon Caulle (volcanic range) has entered an eruptive process, with an explosion resulting in a 10-kilometre-high gas column,' the state emergency office ONEMI said.

Above cloud level the plume looks like a nuclear bomb has just exploded with its mushroom cloud bursting towards the skies

As a precaution, the government said it was evacuating 3,500 people from the surrounding area.

This development is the latest volcanic activity to affect the country. Three years ago, Chile's Chaiten volcano erupted spectacularly for the first time in thousands of years, spewing molten rock and a vast cloud of ash that reached the stratosphere and was visible from space.

It also drifted over neighbouring Argentina, coating towns. Chile's Llaima volcano, one of South America's most active, also erupted that year and again in 2009.

Chile's chain of about 2,000 volcanoes is the world's second largest after Indonesia. Some 50 to 60 are on record as having erupted, and 500 are potentially active.
